Wolves in Sheeps Clothing

I came across an article in the New York Times that was titled White Evangelical Women, Core Supporters of Trump, Begin Tiptoeing Away.

I have to say that I read the article several times trying to understand the mindset of these women.  I am also a Christian and because of my Christian faith and culture, I strive to live my life and make choices based on what I have learned from sound biblical teaching.  So with all that I have learned over the years from my Pastor and all of the other ministry leaders in my life, reading this article was upsetting and quite baffling.

These women are more interested in Republican versus Democrat than moral versus immoral.
One woman said that she would like a candidate who will “do what needs to be done.” What exactly does that mean? What does she believe needs to be done?

These women supported Trump, but now they are shying away from him, citing his vulgarity, his pettiness, and pretty much all of the now-classic Trumpisms.
Some even claim to be embarrassed by his behavior. Maybe because Republicans are not supposed to behave that way?
The problem with this shying away is that they knew about his character from day one before they allowed him to represent them on the Republican ballot.  Kind of late to claim embarrassment.

Some of these women cast their vote for Trump because they deemed it a vote against Hillary even though they do not have any solid argument against her.
For many, casting their vote for 45 was a means to an end because they wanted Justice Gorsuch appointed to the Supreme Court.  So to get that man appointed to the high court they sold their souls, and they still have no guarantee that Justice Gorsuch will preside over any of the cases they would like him to, or even rule in their favor. He’s in that position for life, it’s not like they could bribe him the way they could bribe a senator.

Another 45 supporter is the daughter of immigrants. She was born here and, I’m sure, enjoyed the benefits of being a natural-born citizen of the United States. But now she stands in staunch support of Trump’s immigration plans. How hypocritical is that?!  Her parents came to this country illegally and most likely worked like mules to give her a life that they could not have given her in Central America, and now she’s in agreement with Trump to deny others the same opportunities.  I wonder if she ever stopped to imagine what her life would be like if her parents stayed in Central America?

I have to wonder about these so-called Christian women. What do they say to their children, their grandchildren, and the people that they mentor in their churches and in there communities after casting aside every value they taught and professed to live by in order to stand by a man who goes contrary to all of that?

I have to revisit what one of the women said, getting a candidate that would “do what needs to be done”.  Again I ask, what is that exactly?  What do these women really want, for the U.S., for their communities, for their children, for the rest of us?
It is a dangerous thing when you have people who will readily take off their values like a coat when it suits them. These are the wolves in sheep’s clothing that we need to watch out for.  They are in the church.
